The majority of characterization in X-Men: Apocalypse. Stornm as a street thug? Angel as a cage fighter? Apocalypse more like something out of Stargate than En Sabah Nur? Kill me now.

well, years upon years ago (before some reboot or another), Storm actually was a street thief. I believe it was shortly after her parents were killed (I forget the exact cause, but that was also when she gained her claustrophobia)

(Of course, then there was fun mini-arc where she's de-aged and teams up with Gambit)

Storm was a street thief in the earlier X-Men runs, I don't know if it's still canon but that was definitely a part of her backstory once.

wasn't her being a street thief the way she met Xavier in one of the earlier runs (she tried to pick his pocket or something)?

Yeah, I think she does that and then he figures out she's a mutant when he catches her and offers her a place in the institute.

Honestly the backstories for these characters get retconned so much it's hard to keep track of what's what.

tell me about it - the X-Men just need to release a book that is nothing but "This is Cyclops. This is origin story one, two, three. This is Jean Grey. This is origin story one, two, three, four.." and so on and so forth. If only so we know what is canon these days

I think the issues where Hank brings back the '60s era original team nearly broke my brain. Because trying to recall which version we're dealing with when a character calls for "Scott" was maddening. [Did Hank ever give a logical explanation for that headache?]

I just wish they would pick a backstory and stick with it, but no! They want to change things up. And with AU's that's fine, change shit up for those and make them different(it's what they're for), but I'd just like it to remain stable in the main continuity. Please. *sobs in the corner*

can I get an amen here! Seriously, I miss knowing what was canon and what was clearly a "What if?" story.

Or if they kept a consistent appearance! None of this random, spur of the moment change (like Jubilee suddenly becoming a vampire and having that carry over from one series to another. How, how is this canon? Bad enough we had Storm as a vampire but Jubilee? Wouldn't her powers cause her injury?)

Clearly we must live in a constant state of confusion, I think they feed off of it.

Idek with the vampire Jubilee thing man, I didn't even read the comic where it happened then she was suddenly a vampire and I was very confused. Vampires for all! (I'm actually surprised they haven't done a vamp AU like the zombie AU they had/have).

It's the Marvel print business model.

I always sort of knew her to be queen, though now that you mention her meeting Xavier that way, I might have a vague recollection

I think she was both in a really weird round-about way, pretty sure they retconned it for her to always be a Kenyan princess/queen, but I'll be fucked if I can recall correctly atm.
