Cruises?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-06 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone here taken a cruise? If so, what kind and how did you like it (was it worth the money)?

I've been on three cruises, and my parents take a cruise every year. All three of mine were in the Caribbean but my parents have taken European river cruises and done an Alaska one. Whether they're worth the money or not really depends on what you want to get out of one.

I've been on several cruises. As long as you're not one to over indulge on alcohol, it's completely worth it.

I did a Carnival cruise to Canada from New York, Royal Caribbean to Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas from Miami, Norwegian to Bahamas and Florida from Charleston, and Carnival to Bahamas from Miami.

I don't recommend going by yourself, everyone is usually paired up or in a group and I went with people who had opposite schedules from me so I felt really lonely a lot.

I also did two overnight cruises from Helsinki to Stockholm and then Stockholm to Riga and loved them. Cruises are a great way to see a lot and keep it in budget.

I took a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas and another to Belize. They're okay but IMO it's a long time to be on a boat and there's not much to do but eat, drink, and gamble. I'd like to take one to Alaska some day but again, I get bored on the boat and after a couple of days I'm ready for it to end.

I've never been on a cruise, but my parents just got back from their first ever and from the sound of it they both really loved it. They're very frugal people and both felt like it was worth the money (which was about $900 apiece, iirc?). For my father, I think the biggest thing was that everything was taken care of--he didn't have to worry about scheduling things, making sure they caught flights on time, arranging/paying for meal, etc. If you're willing to pay for that peace of mind, a cruise might be an idea vacation for you!

Been on one. Fucking HATED it. It's like everything I loathe about Las Vegas crammed onto a boat with mediocre food being presented like it's gourmet. It didn't help that I had to spend the entire trip stone cold sober. That's no way to live in that kind of environment.

I went on an overnight cruise on a schooner. It was brilliant (mind you the weather was good for sailing) and a lot of people there were singles, so I didn't feel awkward,. Would recommend.

I love cruises. I've been on four so far and I'm going on my fifth in November. I've mostly cruised to different parts of the Caribbean, but I'd love to do an Alaska Cruise or one of those European river cruises. I've taken one Carnival Cruise and three Royal Caribbean cruises, I really do enjoy Royal Caribbean.

If you want to start cruising, I'd definitely recommend taking a shorter one to see if you like it. I took a 5-day cruise as my first one, and that was a pretty good length of time, not too long and not too short.

Cruises are AWESOME. You don't have to cook, you don't have to wash dishes, you don't have to drive anywhere so you can get as drunk as you want...
