How is it any different or worse than MST, though? It's exactly the same thing, just in a different medium.

I wasn't actually trying to argue against you, so much as your comment had ideas similar to the comment I was originally going to post separately.

I do think there's kind of a difference between mocking something intended from the start to be seen by a pretty big audience, that presumably went through multiple stages of production and approval, and making fun of something written only for a specific group of fans of a specific thing. I guess that all depends on how people separate fan creations vs. other media, though, and that's not necessarily how everyone's going to view it.

But again, I'm not trying to claim it shouldn't be done or anything; it's just that the justifications I usually see don't personally work for me.

Agreed. And MST's mocking never really came off as cruel and personal attacks sort of stuff (at least, not from what I can remember, anyway). It was more sort of gentle mocking, like, "Yeah, this is so cheesy and goofy and the plot's kinda ridiculous and makes no sense, but it's still fun/hilarious/entertaining/etc. to watch." I think that's an important distinction that some sporkers/mockers don't really think to make sometimes.
