What? I mean first of all it's a bit of a cultural thing, excitement over getting a good deal. But all my friends who are strapped for cash (and me) always get super hyped when we get something on sale, because it means we can afford something that otherwise we couldn't, or that we just got a thing we needed for less money than we initially thought.

That's what I mean. People who are strapped for cash are excited a deal exists. People who aren't, pat themselves on the back for being suuuch a good bargain hunter. It's about them, not the thing they're buying. If you're strapped for cash, you're happy about the item, not what a "great job you did"

Dude, who the fuck do you hang out with?

Different people from you apparently? Not sure what this question is meant to imply.

This is something I've noticed from the people around me, like I said in the original post. It's NYC if that matters. There's a good spectrum of people on both ends of the financial scale

In all honesty it kinda does.

Dude, I once bargained a seller down 30 bucks on a jacket at the market. I was patting myself on the back for MONTHS after that.
And once I got a really great skirt for 2 dollars. That was am awesome day.
I mean your friends sound obnoxious, but I'm not sure you're really familiar with all the ways people talk about deals...
