I know it's frustrating to not be able to afford the latest and greatest games and hardware, but you sound really entitled and unrealistic in your expectations.

Gaming is quite possibly one of the cheapest hobbies to get into. Not only do console generations generally last a decade or more (meaning buying ONE console allows you to play thousands of new games, plus backwards compatibility adds thousands or tens of thousands more choices) but used consoles are often relatively cheap and can last for decades of playtime with proper care. Used games are cheap, and even a shitty PC can run an emulator just fine, expanding your possibilities even more.

And that's not even touching on the literal hundreds of thousands of free or almost-free titles that can be found online or on services like Steam. Many of them major releases like MMOs that have now switched to a free-to-play model (Lord of the Rings Online comes to mind, but I know there's dozens of big MMOs still kicking around). And for the PC most services like Origin and Steam hold frequent sales with price reductions sometimes reaching 90% or more. I bought multiple games this summer through Steam that cost less than $2 a piece.

(Not even touching on piracy, if the exchange rate is just so terrible you couldn't afford even $2 for a recent release.)

If the only games that could possibly hold your fickle attention are AAA titles released only within the past six months, then yeah, you're SoL. But plenty of gamers are poor or live outside the US/UK and manage just fucking fine.

This. I have a $300 bargain bin computer and it runs plenty of recent/current games just fine. Not at max settings, no, but it can play the games, which is the important part.

I came here to say the same. I got a PS3, HD TV and 5 games for under $500 by shopping clearance and used items. And it wasn't any extra effort - Amazon for the console, Walmart clearance for the TV and a combination of Amazon and a used item store for the games. Even bigger stores can be good for used games. I got the first Uncharted game for $5 at Best Buy a few years ago.

Gaming is only expensive if you have to have it all brand sparkling new right now.

and you get so many hours of enjoyment out of a good game. i got fallout 3 used for a couple bucks and got 50 hours out of it before i started to get bored. that is pennies per hour. you cant even get a coffee that cheap.
