People complain about people close to them and it's doubtful we're getting anything remotely unbiased here. My guess is that OP's parents have complained about their friends before, but OP is only focusing on the negative comments their parents have made.

What is making you think OP is exaggerating or inventing here? My otherwise-awesome father is friends with some people who are quite as bad, if not worse.
