Er, I'd like to add a caveat.

I'm well below poverty level for my area of the country.

I'm always posting about going to doctor's appointments because I'm disabled, and going to the doctor is part of my treatment. Fortunately, I'm poor enough to actually get decent help through the social safety net.

For the working poor, yes, doctor's visits are a luxury (and shouldn't be!), but for others that's not the case. Trust me, I'd give up the doctor's visits in a heartbeat in exchange for not being disabled anymore.
