I actually agree. Like, of all the deaths, theirs seemed most pointless? I dunno; It bugs me more than I thought it would. Also they were such great characters, but so underused towards the end, while other often still got to shine right before their demise.

That's the curse of Game of Thrones.

nah, but my point is that a lot of the other deaths did seem to make sense to me, once I realized this was that sort of series. this just seemed like wasted potential<.

Major deaths in prior seasons (as well as in the books) tended to be for a specific reason, ie that character had screwed up somehow (Ned poking the hornet's nest and being too trusting, Robb breaking an agreement, and so on) but this one was just...they'd been rotting in jail for the whole season and then get annihilated. To me, it felt like kicking a dying animal while it's down, instead of an actual defeat.

Or to put it another way, instead of actually beating anyone in the Game, Cersei basically just threw a fit and flipped the table over, which isn't really winning.

This is why I stopped watching Game of Thrones. The more characters I care about die, the less I care about the show. I stopped watching a while ago and I'm still bugged by Margery's death. Even if the actress wanted out, she deserved a much better exit.

It was a pretty cool explosion, though. The lead-up was very intense, what the fallout meant for Cersei was interesting, and Margarery was the smartest person in the room until her last breath. If they had listened to her, they might have lived.

It was an awesome exit, most of all for her. She realised what was going on before it happened. If it hadn't been for the Sparrow blocking the exists through hubris, she would have gotten out.

Her death was caused by aligning herself to the wrong player, and not recognising his fatal flaw. She still looked capable and clever in the end, but at the same time, it was her misjudgement that put her in the position she found herself in.

It only takes one slip, or backing one wrong horse.

It felt like the natural culmination of a series of escalations that had been taking place over the last few seasons. Cersei beat everyone (and lost everyone she cares about) by being more ruthless than her competitors, which seems like the sensible ending for the King's Landing political story.

It was time to clear the table at King's Landing, so there's space for the Cersei/Dany showdown that's clearly on the cards for season seven.

It made me sad too. I love Maergery, and poor Loras had it so rough after Renly's death. I love them both, really. I'm sad to see them go. But at the same time, I think it was a great storyline.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-09 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad they're dead tbh, seeing the show constantly bastardize Loras' character beyond all recognition was painful.

i've only read the books, what did the show change?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-09 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
It turned him into a gay punchline (his sexuality is basically all his character is in the show, and every character cracks jokes at his expense about it) and incompetent (both physically and mentally) religious fanatic. Also they made it so that he gave no fucks about Renly.
