They all get taken to a really nice farm upstate with big open fields, wonderful old barns, and a farmhouse full of rooms and fishtanks, and they all have the time of their lives. Just like all your childhood pets.

I wonder about this a lot when I read about people in real life dying. What's going to happen to their dependents? Will a family member or friend take them in, or are they going to a shelter (or foster home in the case of kids)?

It bothers me in fiction because it's a real issue.

Yea, it's a sad thing to think about. I've wondered as well; sometimes you don't know, and can only hope everything turns out as well as possible given the horrible circumstances.

As someone who has been a shelter volunteer... they very often end up in shelters. It's the saddest fucking thing, because shelter animals so rarely get adopted, especially not pets that are often older. So that means the poor thing spends its last days stressed and terrified.

So to people who take in their loved ones' pets... THANK YOU SO MUCH. You are heroes in my book.

Ugh, I hate thinking about it. If someone dies outside the house, how long is it going take for someone to go and check their apartment for pets (assuming that family and friends won't get the word right away)?

I'm thinking Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose for some reason.

If this is Bela Talbot, you'll be happy to know there's a fix-it where her cat is taken care of:

Oooh, I'm not the OP, but thanks for that! I'll have to read it.

Same here. I end up always looking up for spoilers to know what happens to the animals, and also to know what happens to them irl after filming.

I think that's completely understandable! Part of the appeal of fiction is connecting with characers emotionally; if we can be worried for human characters, why not pets? I se nothing wrong with this.

Very valid concerns OP!

I RPed Bela in a community once, and I totally had her have arrangements for her cat whenever she went away and before the final event. So I am very much with you on that, OP.

She has a single Siamese cat and her house is not destroyed, which means she has someone coming to look after it and give it lots of attention! It's just logical to anyone who has ever had a Siamese.

This made me flash on the first season of The Closer. The main character, Brenda, has just moved to LA for a new job at the LAPD. In the 3rd episode, the victim's house is eventually seized as an asset because it belonged to mobsters. Well Brenda winds up buying the house (murder scenes don't sell well), the furnishings, and the victim's cat. Who she insists for a while is not her cat, just a cat that lives at her house. But Brenda/Kitty is the true love story of the show!
