This is probably one of those times when drawing political analogies across the two countries just doesn't work.

She seems like a sneerier and nastier version of Sarah Palin to me. Honestly, she has that permanent middle class sneer to her face. She is one of those rare cases where the cruelty and contempt a politician has for the lower classes is right out there in full public display.

I'm also worried she is going to win. She is riding the same anti-intellectual, pro-selfish nastiness, that the Teaps have been riding. The same one Boris and Farage whipped up to accidentally win their little exercise in backwardsness. The same one Lynton whipped up for Cameron to win the election, the same one the Daily Mail and the Sun have been whipping up for decades to keep their circulation up. I don't think that is played out yet, sadly.

I am just kind of leery about equating the populism that exists in the two countries. I also don't think you can really make sense of Leadsom without the legacy of Thatcher which doesn't really exist in America. I do agree that she seems pretty completely terrible.

She said only people with children can have a stake in the future, and also that she hates the concept of maternity pay. I'm sensing a lack of joined up thinking from her. Also the biggest issue facing the UK in these turbulent times is re-legalising fox hunting.

Re-legalising fox hunting and rolling back gay marriage. Yeah.

I'm not defending her, I'm just saying there are more ways to be terrible than being Sarah Palin.
