NAYRT - LOL. But what I don't get is... people have been bitching how much movies suck these days for years. I've done research that shows movie execs know fewer people go to the movies these days, unless it's a blockbuster. Don't you think they would try and fix something?

I think their profit margins are enough in the international market that they don't care.

Nah, they are just piling all their chips on trying to be the ones who make the next blockbuster that makes all the money. The bubble hasn't burst yet, close though (thanks DC-Warner).

If I had a lot of money, that's certainly something I would consider as a strategy for producing movies. I don't know why it's not being pursued at all by existing studios or producers.

1) As long as the movies make money, studios will keep making them regardless of quality.

2) But for ones that are actually bad and flop, I think the problem is that making a movie is such a long process and everyone's so wrapped up in that no one can recognize that it's bad or if they do, it's too late to stop anything.

Well, no. Because the goal of those movie execs isn't a general increase in movie-going, it's to rake in the most money for specific films. THEIR films. From their business perspective, it makes far more sense to look at the stats and go hmmm, people aren't going to movies as often except for blockbusters. Their solution isn't "Let's make a bunch of different movies and see if we can entice people back to the theaters thereby taking the risk that they won't come", their solution is to MAKE MORE BLOCKBUSTERS. And why wouldn't they? Blockbusters are the safer bet, financially.
