I recommend reading The Administration series. If you can slog through it, Toreth is such a textbook sadistic sociopath that it's actually interesting to read about his thought processes.

The second to last big book dragged out so badly for me, though. Then Family Values was just... honestly, I just really liked reading the Toreth parts.

"Slog through it"? It's really well written and an amazing story. I've read the whole series a number of times, and reread it every couple years.
