03. I thought I was almsot a hikkikomori until I met my roommate.

11. HAHA I CAN TO AN EXTENT AGREE BECAUSE THE PLOT IS PRETTY AWFUL. But is it bad that i read it because or the characters =/? They're pretty well developed at times XD;;.

23. I'm sorry =/

38. Make your own organization. Elistism can go suck it D=.

53. Repeat?

66. Mental disorders cheapen people too. We love to categories others and ourselves... I honestly think I have less of a problem with it in the fandom than i do in real life.

Mental disorders cheapen people? Really?

[identity profile] nuclearpez.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
... meaning... that by defining someone by it and giving an excuse of it towards their actions cheapens their existence. Yes. I do believe they are our there in different degrees in people, I just believe had society has made us less tolerate of what could be considered normal nowadays. Don't think I'm saying that people with mentals disorders are worthless... I'm saying by making it their singular identity it does. ie: He is not the boy with ADHD, he is a person.

[identity profile] iamspecial.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, in that case I agree... defining someone by one attribute, whatever it is, is stupid. The way you phrased it made it a bit confusing though.

[identity profile] nuclearpez.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah I figured as much. Haha i've worked with a lot of people with mental disorders academically tutoring them so I get really pissed when people define them, especially teachers, by those attributes =/.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
66. With the really really bad stuff, though, like Axis I and II personality disorders, NOT having them means being virtually unable to deal with and help these people.

[identity profile] nuclearpez.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I'm fine with medicating it and approve of that particularly in certain cases. INOCANEXPLAINONINTERNET... fail.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
66. Putting a name to a disorder in the brain's no more cheapening than telling someone they're got tendonitis. If you're using it as an excuse instead of a simple diagnosis you're just doing it wrong.

In other words, no.

[identity profile] nuclearpez.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
please read the responses to others before you make an incorrect assumption plz.

If you need me to reiterate: .. meaning... that by defining someone by it and giving an excuse of it towards their actions cheapens their existence. Yes. I do believe they are our there in different degrees in people, I just believe had society has made us less tolerate of what could be considered normal nowadays. Don't think I'm saying that people with mentals disorders are worthless... I'm saying by making it their singular identity it does.

Need another example? I did not like the fact that when my mother was dealing with cancer all the saw her was as a cancer patient and people... friends and colleges of her would avoid her.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
When I posted this you hadn't made any responses to others.

And fuck that shit. Defining a person's malfunction in medical terms doesn't mean you're defining their existence, whether it's a character or an actual RL person. Knowing that a character has, say, chronic depression or anorexia doesn't make them any less that character. Naming it only means that you have a deeper understanding of the whys and wherefores and how they might react to a given situation--just like any other physical illness.

Trust me, I know.

66 OP

Yes, good point. It annoys me in real life and it annoys me with fandom. But I think it's most annoying with real people when they do it with themselves and talk about their disorder CONSTANTLY.

You put your pants on one leg at a time like everyone else. Put on your big girl panties and deal, random internet "i haz disorder" people.
