Oh, I love analyzing everyone in that show, and they are fucked up people, since that whole situation would fuck anyone up.

Like the difference between saying (And this may not be correct I'm pulling this out of my ASS) "Asuka's fucked up because her mom killed herself." and "This and this and this point to Asuka have PTSD"?

I don't really know how to describe it. I just feel like it somehow screws with the storyline. The only way I can explain it is to say that it's some kind of canonrape.

I think the reason it bothers me in that particular fandom is because my impression of it is that the characters are completely normal. And THIS is how normal people would react to being in a mecha anime storyline, as opposed to what is normally shown.

I think I see what you mean, but like...a lot of issues, like PTSD *IS* a normal person trying to cope with something...not normal. You send all those kids of to war, they came back fucked up. A lot of disorders and things are normal people who have been messed up in some way.
