Second, you were making sense until your last statement. Offer me some proof that the Japanese animation industry is doing so very poorly that the meager American DVD sales are what's keeping it afloat. Explain to me how they can afford to keep producing the massive crapton of merchandise, CDs, live events, and enormous gatherings like the Tokyo fair going on right now, things that people in America and other countries have NO access to. Explain why half of the anime out there, at LEAST, is never even licensed for western audiences if we are so very essential to them. Show me your proof.
You're right that fans should buy DVDs. Trying to guilt fans by telling them that anime will die in omg Japan if they don't buy them is a load of crap. That's like saying that American reality shows will die out if the Japanese don't quickly start buying them all on DVD NOW.
