I really liked the Jamie Babbitt film The Quiet, and I feel like a lot of critical receptions to it really did not understand what it was doing on a fundamental level, and how radical it was. People treated it as an exploitation movie - it's not, it's a very serious movie about responding to abuse and violence and trauma, but it also doesn't play into the standard media playback of how to make serious drama about abuse, which is one of the things that makes it so good.
