Which is kinda funny because for all everyone says SV is better than HM, HM never had that problem. Even in the original if the marriage NPCs were living with their parents and stuff, they still felt like they could be anywhere from 18-35 or so. Definitely not like, 16 and doing high school homework. In SV they all feel like teenagers and then there's Mr. Mustache the weird loner over 30. (Though I wouldn't be surprised if it were revealed he's canonically 19 or something with how everyone else is. AND THEN YOUR CHARACTER IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE CHILDREN WITH THEM aaaaaaaaaa)

The art, at least for the female characters, DOES have a huge problem where everybody looks the same age, and the age is "18-22/college." When you can't tell that the mothers are older than the daughters due to anime sameface syndrome, it's a problem. Elliot I'll grant looks older, yeah, but his personality is like a manchild that never grew up.
A: sob the way they TALK yeah like
A: reading the scripts
A: someone worried about staying in house being like not just
A: I'm embarrass!!
A: but more like reflective and worried and
A: comparing what other people his age are doing
A: and thinking about where he can go with this / he's getting older what about life goals
A: did he focus too much on career and now he doesn't know how to socialize like
A: I can see that for someone a bit older
A: usually people who are older are vaguely conscious like late twenties the uhh
A: 'they don't have the freedom / flexibility they did when younger they need to be a little serious now'
there's a distinct
A: 'a phase in my life has passed'
Case: i am going to add that

I was talking about the original HM, where arguably the characters were shallower. But you had a lot of the possible marriage candidates still (like the SV ones), living with their parents. But they still had a sort of more authentic small farm town feel where children taking over their parents' small family businesses and running them during the day was expected/a given, so they could have been 18 (starting young), or they could have been 30 and doing the same thing (have been for a while). SV kind of misses that in trying to make all their characters more modern and talking about homework or studies and making you help them make moral decisions about basic things like telling the truth or not or whether their band will totally take off bro yea!1!... which is relatable to millennials, I guess, but definitely places them as an age category below "working adult." (As in, "adult that's been working a while" not fresh out of college intern/trainee)
(Also there are some really, REALLY cringey moments in SV where like THE GUY'S MOM WALKS IN ON YOU and asks what you're doing. Straight out of a teen movie. Nope nope nope nope Edit: Or the one where the Dad tries to warn you out of his little girl's life because you might get in the way of her budding career and stuff, aaaaa)
