I think you've missed the point of the essay. It's not a dramatic argument about how "if you say anti-masculine things around a closeted trans woman she'll kill herself!!!," and it's really gross to read that into it. The point is that mainstream feminism of the kind talked by a lot of (mainly cis, mainly white, often heterosexual) women often veers too far into attacking masculinity without any productive intent or justification, and thus invalidates the experiences, the contributions, the perspectives, and the inner lives not only of trans women, closeted or otherwise, but of cis and trans men as well.
