But, single drabbles can be fine. It's the massive collections that are aggravating.

I'm sure you could refine it a little better to only hide the massive drabble collections, but I'm not sure how to do that unfortunately. :(

Seriously, if people want to have them grouped together (by the EXTREMELY COHESIVE THEME of BEING FOR THE SAME FANDOM, what?) why can't they just put them in a series?

Because then people flip their shit about the drabble writer posting too many works/posting too often/omg drabbles are taking over the fandom. It's a lose/lose situation for people who write any kind of microfic - either you post separately and piss off the people who are going to lose it if you post with more than whatever arbitrarily determined frequency and/or volume they've decided is appropriate, or you post in a single collected work and piss off the people who assume many chapters = longfic and don't bother looking at the word count and summary.

Adding a new drabble to a chaptered work is still gonna put it at the front of the update queue, so those people might be pissed off either way.

you post in a single collected work and piss off the people who assume many chapters = longfic and don't bother looking at the word count and summary Actually, the part that annoys me is when you end up with a sea of tags because every drabble is focused on a different pairing or what-have-you, and I'm just not motivated to scan all of them to see if a single drabble in there interests me and then go find which chapters are those couple works that I might like. Single drabbles aren't nearly as much of an organizational disaster and I fully encourage authors who write them to keep up with it no matter who's complaining about it.

Exactly.

Yes! And in smaller fandoms there's the issue of (a) looking like you're taking over the fandom if you regularly post microfic while others semi-regularly post longer fic and (b) the rule about X number of fics making a fandom ineligible for certain fests - I'd rather have a few drabble collections than 100 individual drabbles that push a fandom out of Yuletide.
