The only reason they gave him that colour scheme in the anime was so he'd 'match the wall'.

When I'm drawing comics, I colour the backgrounds to contrast with the characters... But NEVER the other way around!

I honestly can't reconstruct any thought process that would end in "Let's make him match the wall!" except, like, a roomful of people laughing at themselves as they worked on the thing.
