64. Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, Grapefruit, Citrus...they all seem to have disappeared over the years. I had a whole rant worked up once when some fanbrat in the KH fandom decided to 'make her own ratings' since she only knew 'lemon'...where 'grapefruit' meant 'hand holding and not much kissing'. I almost died.

...I feel old, all of a sudden. Kids these days!

Man, I only knew three of those. What were pineapple and grapefruit?
I'm awfully attached to lemon, lime and citrus though. :(

*pushes glasses up nose* Pineapple was used for stories with excessive kink- like tentacles, bondage, etc, etc...it's origins come from the studio Pink Pineapple, which was known for their...interesting hentai.

Grapefruit was used a lot for interrupted sex, I believe. Forgive me for not having a footnote for this one

There was also Orange, but that quickly got replaced by Citrus, since they meant the same thing anyways.

And then there was Strawberry, but that only applies to the 1x5 shippers in the GW fandom

ETA: Oh, and I just remembered. There were actually two uses of Grapefruit that I've seen. One is interrupted sex, and the other is for a rape scene. (G-rape-fruit, I believe was the justification. >.> )

I don't remember grapefruit or pineapple (fandom specific, perhaps?), but I have fond memories of the others! In fact, I think I'll still use them myself if I ever finish what I'm working on.

I'm not sure. I saw them used on occasion back in the late nineties/early last decade...I was primarily in the GW fandom at the time, so maybe it's just something that particular fandom held onto? I know that Pineapple at least has origins outside that fandom, but most of the people I've seen use Grapefruit (and I've seen that used in a few different ways from fandom to fandom) were in the GW fandom.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of using the main three, though. I've been using 'em so long it's ingrained. XD

I started out in GW too! And it was in '99 (or was it '98?). Maybe I just forgot? It's been a while after all.

Anyway, I love the main three. ♥

Damn, I only know lemon... What does Lime and Citrus mean?

Re: 64.

[identity profile] yume-no-kage.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well lemon is a full on smut scene, correct? Lime is not quite to that degree. There's some getting down to business going on, but it isn't as explicit, usually fading to black or skimming over the details.

Citrus means that there's some action, but the clothes aren't exactly flying off. It's kind of the PG-13 to Lime's R and Lemon's NC-17.

Ah, thanks =D Now, where's that "the more you know" macro when you need it?
