Whereas I'm squicked by being squicked at heteronormativity. That's just as gross as being squicked by slash and femmslash.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-15 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It really isn't.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is. "But straighties are meeeeaaaaan to people who aren't straight!" isn't an excuse for practicing behavior you wouldn't want leveled at other people.

I feel like some people just need to have "context matters" tattooed on the inside of their eyelids.

here's a hint: Context matters.

In the context of our society being squicked by homosexual behaviour leads to and implies some very shitty things than being squicked by heterosexual behaviour just doesn't

And media reflects our society. What happens in media is heavily influenced by society.

For example, heteronormativity is encouraged in society. Most canon couples in media are Heterosexual.

So, complaining about what happens in media makes it a valid complaint for society, and vice versa.

But all "very shitty things" need to happen are shitty people. It doesn't need numbers.

OP: In the context of the game narrative, both kissing and PIV sex are big problems for Quarians. Tali gets physically sick from sex with sheploo, hence the squick. A more nuanced treatment of the scene not dependent on the assumption that fucking is endgame for any relationship would have avoided the need for morning after pillow talk about antihistamines and antibiotics.

"Sheploo"

Thanks for erasing us who played with a non-default and/or non-white M!Shepard.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
not op but sheploo is literally only referencing MaleShep's voice actor tho? I don't see how that erases anyone??

(Anonymous) 2016-07-16 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
OP: Not to mention, heteronormativity != heterosexuality != heterosexual fucking.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-16 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
They didn't say they were squicked by heterenormativity in general, they said they were squicked by it in this game

(Anonymous) 2016-07-16 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
are you under the impression that heteronormativity is a synonym for heterosexuality? you sound stupid.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-16 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This so much!
