As a fellow long-waisted person, tank tops are my BEST FASHION FRIEND. They make ones specifically for layering, they are long and slim-cut and light fabric.

Also, the capsule wardrobe is your friend. Get a few pairs of slacks or skirts in neutrals (navy, gray, khaki) and if you need blazers/jackets get them in neutrals too, then get 5 shirts that coordinate, and mix and match your way through the week. Wash (or dry-clean), rinse, repeat, get a paycheck and add a piece or two. Maybe another blazer in a bright color that coordinates with your neutrals, or something like that.
