A friend of mine has been an eccentric old lady since her late 20s (no joke, she even keeps Werther's in her purse.) It's different for everyone :)

Eccentric old ladyhood is a state of mind. You can be as eccentric-old-ladyish as you want at any age.

I'm turning 49 in less than a week, and I hit eccentric old ladyhood about six years ago. I've always been eccentric, but I was a little self-conscious about it. Now? I don't care what anyone else thinks about my clothes, hair, makeup, hobbies, interests, etc, etc, etc.

My eccentricity is very laid back because I do what I want. I do think you can do it from any age, but, man, it feels good to not care. ;)

"Eccentric" to me means batshit crazy but too rich to be put away. Michael Jackson and Howard Hughes, for example.
