Tumblr is better at depicting pictures, LJ is better for text, I agree with that, but that's not all they're doing. Tumblr just has much, much, much better social features - it's a generation or two ahead of LJ in that regard. And it's also more reliable and better designed, which does matter. At the end of the day, LJ couldn't adapt to those things, that's why it died. It's not as good at being a social network. No one's fault but LJ's.

And it's also more reliable and better designed

Thank you, that's the best joke I've heard all year. I'll have to remember that one.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It is better designed. And it is more reliable than Livejournal is - admittedly not a high bar to clear.

Also more mobile-optimized probably.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with the other anon, you are hilarious. I hope you'll be here all week.

Tumblr is literally the anti-social media. I'm not sure there's any social media that's less social than Tumblr.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
There is some definition of "social" for which this is true, and it might be better and more meaningful, but it's orthogonal to the definition that has to do with how users actually work and interact on online social networks.

As someone helping to run a huge fandom blog on Tumblr, I just have to laugh at how inaccurate and stupid this comment is. Please continue, the jokes are great.

I never, *ever* would have joined PoS Tumblr if fandom hadn't left LJ. I followed fandom. I'm still on LJ and DW (obviously) for what communities are still active there.

Tumblr is the anti-community.

I'm laughing so hard. Oh anon, you sound so very young.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not especially young, I'm just trying to look at it from a detached perspective

Tumblr built a better mousetrap, whether or not you happen to like it more

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
like, if Livejournal is so much better, what's your explanation for why everyone moved to Tumblr?

inborn evil?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-18 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
A++

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
As far as my fandom is concerned, the fandom itself broke up (people moved on to different fandoms after the series ended) and the newer influx of people joining the fandom were younger and Tumbler-ites. So the remaining LJ fandom people (very few) had no choice but to either join the tumblr fandom (greater numbers) or have no fandom.

It wasn't a migration per se. More that the new iteration of the fandom was on Tumblr.
