Loki and Bucky, for much the same reason: they got latched onto so fucking hard by fangirls that it's impossible to move an inch in fandom without running into fic/art/loud incoherent noises about one or the other of them. The oversaturation pretty much ruined both characters for me.

I never really got the Loki adoration (never read the comics, so I can't tell if it's purely a movie thing) but the character is just so... rote?

Or maybe I'm missing the point and it's really just a bunch of fangirls cooing over a cute actor.

For a significant chunk of the fanbase, it's exactly that. They have the same reaction to any character the actor plays.

For a lot of the rest, it's the standard "bitter dark haired, pale skinned loner who's totally a poor maligned nerd just like us" thing. They project their geeks vs jocks high school bullshit drama on the character, when it doesn't really fit all that well to begin with, and doesn't fit at all by the second movie he appears in.

+1

I never even went to go see Civil War. I think the Bucky hype made me realize how bored I was with MCU.

I liked Civil War, but I thought the Bucky parts were the weakest parts of the movie. Saving Bucky would've made a fine movie (that I wouldn't have watched, but a lot of other fans would've loved) on its own, but trying to make it a central pillar of the larger story they were trying to tell in Civil War just didn't work well.
