Why? You have a valid reason not to like them.

It's okay to not like a character, regardless of color or gender. You're not obligated to like EVERY black character just because they're black. If you don't like them, you don't like them. You don't have to justify your dislike.

Disliking a black character for reasons other than their race doesn't make you a racist. No doubt there are characters of other races you don't like? But you'll have to self-examine why you're uncomfortable, only you can know the truth there.

(This has a trolly feel to it, but could just be that subtlety I've seen suggested so often too.)

You could be racist. Or it could be random. Or the writers could have been a little subconsciously racist, and wrote those characters with traits you happen to mutually dislike.

Is the black character in an ensemble usually/always your least favorite? If yes, you should probably do some soul searching. If not, relax about your taste in media and go donate some water to Flint, cause they still need it.

Jeanie Boulet pissed me off so much with that thing where she sued her boss and friend/the hospital for not letting her do some specific procedure because she was HIV positive.

Not for the suing itself, but for the way she decided to do it (i.e., she initially agreed that she shouldn't do that thing and didn't think the restriction was unfair, but then realized she would probably win if she sued and get money from it, so she sued. And she wasn't even desperate for money or anything like that.)

If it makes you feel any better, blame the show writers for writing them like that, but it honestly depends on whether they're given character flaws that are out of line with what the non minority characters were given.

I felt a little similar. I really didn't like Benton until I saw his cameo in the last season where he seems to have mellowed out and seemed happier than he was while working for the ER hospital. I'd like to think he's in a better spot. I did like Benton's friendship with Carter. I just didn't like some of the melodrama storylines that they gave a lot of characters.

Well, they have a statistical likelihood of being written by white people, if that makes you feel better. (Just that there aren't a lot of POC writers in the industry with a lot of power...I think it's getting better, though? I hope?)

It's been a long time since I watched ER, but that guy was an asshole, and it had nothing to do with his colour.
