*points* this. I feel like a lot of people miss the point about why tropes in media MATTER. It's because children and teens INTERNALIZE that shit and then when they grow up, they LIVE it when they don't have to and often don't want to but feel obligated too. This leads to women and people who are AFAB feeling trapped and a culture of men who doing develop as emotionally mature humans on their own. It damages literally everyone but people shrug it off because its "just a story." No shit. Stories are the bedrock of civilization. Even when we were in caves, stories told us HOW to live. So they still MATTER.
