Oh god, redundancies. To be fair, those can be difficult to pick up without an editor sometimes, but TRY. Reread your shit!

The lazy cliches... when I saw that "simple shrug", it crystallized for me how many ficauthors (and authors in general) write characters with "stock" movements, rather than thinking about this character in this environment and how they move and what it means. Using a phrase because it's a phrase, not because it's what needs to be right here, right now, in this scene.
But that's one of the things that separates great authors, isn't it?
I'm afraid in that sense I'm not the best myself - I always struggle with descriptions and scene-making, and probably fall into cliches too. The problem is it's difficult finding betas who will push me, these days.

Have you ever read Yukio Mishima? Because that is some beautiful prose (even if the subject matter is uh. um.)

Confessions Of A Mask was aight. I think I'm summarily unaffected by Japanese existential horror and the like after so long in weebdom lol.

I recently read "the sailor who fell from grace with the sea", and that was very solidly done, and very pretty prose, even if the plot was a bit.... edgy, lol

Late, but....
In 99% of Teen Wolf fic, at some point, Stiles will say 'yup' and 'pop the p'. OMFG.
