Fandom will only leave when either (a) the financial situation becomes so bad that they cut down on basic maintenance and quality of life and it starts to affect the usability or (b) some new alternative comes out that's materially superior to Tumblr.

What usability? Anything imaginable would be "materially superior" to tumblr.

Well, those are two separate points.

With regards to usability, it clearly has usability now. Because millions of people use it.

With regards to materially superior, it would have to have some significantly different and/or improved way of creating, finding, and sharing content, or of finding and interacting with other users.
