But if a game requires no actual effort, is it in fact a game? I'm not sure how I myself would answer that question, but it's certainly something to think about.

I think so. I don't think games have to involve winning or losing as long as they involve interaction. It's not a traditional game, no, but it's a medium of storytelling that requires a console. I think those "movie" type games are a really interesting mode of storytelling.

I feel like for me, if it doesn't involve winning or losing, it should at least feel like your input matters. Linear storytelling is fine if your input matters elsewhere, like in gameplay. Branch storytelling is fine if your choices actually...well, branch. Beyond fell somewhere in between those two.
