I wonder if he completely had a choice, though? Like, the choosing to kill someone to get his wife back, yes. But some of his powers and killing and stuff seems like it might have been part of the curse?

I mean, some of it yeah? Like the water-into-blood thing, but on the flip side, you had the "people becoming his slaves" thing, which, even if he didn't want it... He didn't act like it. That, and the fact that he didn't hesitate to use his Awesome New Superpowers (tm) to try and hurt people if they got in his way.

So yeah, I'll give you that he may not have had control over getting the powers/curses, but the fact that he was totally willing to use them (trying to crash the plane with a sand face) to hurt people knocks him back into "Imhotep... No...." territory for me.
