It never bothered me. Both of those paths seem to be ones that take deep levels of commitment, and I totally see Leia choosing to commit to one of them fully than both of them halfway. And I don't think we're supposed to see Luke as being BETTER for his career choice than she is for hers, so...I guess I don't see why it matters that much?

It's just choosing different skills to cultivate.

I agree. And it's interesting that even if there's all this fanon and EU that explores her having Jedi skills, I don't think Luke could ever do what she primarily does.

I would go along with this except for the fact that being Jedi is treated like being in some male monastic order. It would've been nice to have seen SOME female Jedi representation, especially in the early movies. Leia was the obvious candidate, but seventies male attitudes, so...

I...guess? I don't really understand how you're inferring the Jedi was a male monastic order based on the OT, though. The sample size is too limited.

But... there were exactly two original Jedi in the OT, one an old man and the other a green gnome. There weren't a lot of Jedi in the older movies in the first place.

And frankly, the latter was considered an important early piece of representation for green people everywhere.
