Co-worker 1: Hey, we have some people up front with a question about roads.
Me: They should talk to engineering.
Co-worker 1: I'll tell our administrative assistants.
She does so. I hear her.
Two minutes later...
AA: Icey, someone has to talk to you.
Customer: It's a question about roads.
Me: I'll tell you what I know, but you should really talk to engineering.
Customer: They told me to talk to you.
Me: Engineering told you that?
Customer: No, them upfront told me that.
I tell her what I know then go hunt down engineering.
Co-worker 2: What are you doing talking to her? You don't need to talk to her. You shouldn't talk to anybody about roads!
Me: Yeah. I know.
Co-worker 2 talks to the Customer about roads. I go up front to our Admin Assistants.
Me: Guys, if someone has a question about roads, they need to talk to engineering.
AA: Well, nobody told us that.
Me: Co-worker 1 told you that. I heard her tell you that.
AA: Well, engineering wasn't in her office when we called.
Me: Then give her engineering's business card and make an appointment.
AA: Well, we wanted her to talk to somebody.

TL;DR: I work with idiots. And I get blamed for their stupidity.

Dammit, you're right.

But it's also killing my back and neck. My supervisor is a dick. I brought in $400,000 in grant money and nobody said a thing, and I could probably earn more in the private sector.

But yeah, good benefits.

Fuck.

I laughed at this, but then realized I work in a hospital, so technically government, and it's so true. NO ONE LISTENS WHEN I SAY, "TALK TO [BLANK]!"

Thanks. It's not even that they're dumb. It's more that they refuse to listen and do simple things that would make the office function so much better.
