Older games rarely experience resurgences in popularity, even very good ones like Deus Ex.

A lot of this is that those old games just don't hold up as well as our nostalgia goggles lead us to believe. Deus Ex was a marvel when it came out, but is it a marvel by modern standards?

Ignoring things like graphics or sound or NPC AI (which are actually a huge part of the gaming experience for everything from AAA games to Indie titles like Hyper Light Drifter), even the standards for game writing and level design are much higher today. I don't really think you could argue that Deus Ex had better writing than The Banner Saga or Braid or the Witcher games. Hell, even Little Inferno has more subtlety in it's message than Deus Ex did at times.

It sucks when those old games start to fade away, but it's just sort of inevitable.
