I feel you. The last journalist character I liked was Freddie Lounds in Hannibal, and mainly because she was exploitative and frequently getting into trouble because of it.

idk, I still like the idea of the idealistic reporter spreading hard truths to the masses, in much the same way as I like the film noir cop/detective saving dames on the dirty streets of a crooked town, but I think tabloid culture and reality TV have really spoiled me on journalism as a profession.

If you're interested in journalists acting like rational, mostly responsible human beings-- not perfect ones, mind-- try Spotlight.
