I know I will sound kinda mean here, but the entire point of Pokemon go is to actually go. It is to get out and see different landmarks/locations, meet new people, and get moving. If someone can't leave their house then the game has no purpose for them. If they just want to catch Pokémon, there are a lot of other ways they can do so in othergames. It is understandable that they would be sad they can't join in, but having Nintendo change the game so that no one has to leave their houses would mean that it isn't the same game in the slightest. This is just intrinsically a game that requires leaving the house and there are other game options for people who cannot.

You're not wrong, but the point is basically that people are annoyed at disabled people "whining" about not being able to do things, as if they're not allowed to have feelings. That sucks. And basically, the game's "integrity" and "point" would NOT be ruined if they did have a "disabled mode" (which nobody would be forced to play!).

Sharing reasons for "that's just how it is and supposed to be" is just another way of saying "thing/game/able-bodied people matter more" and "no, I don't want to have to think about how you feel bc you annoy me/make me uncomfortable/I want to pretend you don't exist."

It's just bullshit. Fine, you don't care. Fine, that's the point of the game.

But yes, people are allowed to miss that they can't play, they're allowed to express themselves, and it would NOT spoil the "integrity" of a video game made to get people moving if they had a mode for disabled people to play. I don't think anyone in charge gives a shit, but that's the truth.

what do you propose a "disabled mode" forthis game should be? the whole point of the game is to go outside and catch pokemon. there's no trading. there's no kind of interaction with other players except when you're going out to catch pokemon. i mean, i'm not really opposed to a "disabled mode" but idk how that would even work. a "disabled mode" of pokemon go is basically every other pokemon game. sun and moon are coming out in november and there will be plenty of hype about that.

If that's a serious question, IMO it would increase the frequency of running across Pokemon. You would see some in your home; you would see several just in a trip through the grocery store in your wheelchair. And they wouldn't have to walk miles to get 'em to hatch ,etc.

I don't know about that anon but most of the pokemon I've caught were either at my house or at work, just by setting up incense. A lot were caught while running errands. I definitely walk to hatch eggs and get to pokestops but most of the pokemon I've caught were while being stationary, haha.

You can't even trade or battle against other trainers in Pokemon Go and you can't even get all the Pokemons in the game (just some few depending how far you walk and we are talking more than 4 Gens of Pokemon). I would rather have Pokemon Sun/Moon than Go in that case.

^This. What's the point, except to complain that it's not inclusive? There are pokemon games you can play without leaving the house. This isn't one.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-23 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
thank you that was the point i was trying to make earlier

Uh, I and several of my friends are disabled and we can play the game just fine. If you can walk (or ride/wheel yourself) around the block, you can play. You don't have to go far to catch Pokemon - heck, I've caught several just in my house.

AYRT
I didn't say people couldn't be sad that they feel they can't play. I said that changing the game so that people didn't have to leave the house would make the game completely different and take away the entire point of the game.

Disabled people can play the game if they can leave their houses. I saw you were saying something about having more Pokémon spawn while doing errands, and if someone can do errands, they can play. Near my house there is a LGBT coffeehouse with outdoor seating that pretty much always has a lure on it. And there is an outdoor memorial chessboard that is another pokestop. Anyone can sit at either location and collect Pokémon. And it still fits the original purpose of getting people out and seeing things and potentially meeting others.

It is more difficult for people who don't live in a city to do that, but that is true for a lot of people, not just disabled people. And it sucks for everyone who can't play but wants to do so. But I don't agree that changing the game's basic core foundation is something they should have to do.

And for the record, while I am not disabled, I have nerve damage in a leg. Walking is difficult and I do it with a pronounced limp that often leads to other issues. The extent I have been able to play Pokémon Go has been to walk down my street to the aforementioned coffee shop and chessboard and sit there before shuffling home. And that isn't even every day, as a lot of days work has taken so much out of me that I can't even do that. I am well aware that I will not get as many Pokémon as others, I won't really hatch eggs, I can't really battle in gyms, and that I pretty much am not getting the full experience. And I wish I could. But I make do with what I can do.

This. Making the game so you don't have to leave your house (which was the purpose of the game in first place) doesn't serve with the real purpose of the game.
