Oh you know what? I'm just a really dumb yank. I can't tell the difference between reality and fiction.

Don't worry. I don't think your life is like Skins.

Just don't think my life is like Degrassi.

Do you really think we're THAT DUMB???

Degrassi's definitely set in Canada. But whatever, yank might be an all encompassing term.

But it's not about being stupid or being able to tell between fiction/reality. It's about watching a show set in a different culture and therefore not being able to tell what's based on reality because you don't live in that reality. Just count the whole thing as real and you're wrong. Count the whole thing as fictional, and you're still wrong. And I doubt you really know exactly where to draw the line, do you?

To be fair, I would surmise that those people are too stupid to download something off of the internet, and they wouldn't be interested in a "foreign" commodity to begin with.

Does it really matter where the line lies, exactly?

Ultimately, you can't judge an entire culture by one show -- or hey, one television interview segment.

I don't assume all americans are like the ones in that video. I happen to have a lot of American friends who have a much higher general knowledge 'score' than that lot. But I can't help but think that the people I know are actually in the minority. Then again, my country's probably not all that much better, considering the extent of The Sun's readership.

Yes, it does matter where the line lies. Like I said, if you assume the whole show is fictional, you're as much in the wrong as assuming it's all based on reality. And no matter what you say you can seperate out, there will still be some impression left somewhere that something is the same as it's portrayed in that show, when it's not.

Hell, I know British adults who have asked me if things in Skins are real. I just think the likelihood of someone thinking that is far higher outside of the country.
