Now I'm conflicted. Because I hit Cumbersaturation years ago and still haven't recovered, but I love Ejiofor.

I guess I don't get the "over saturation" thing because I don't watch TV? I've seen him in Sherlock and 12 Years A Slave. The Hobbit if you count voice acting.

NAYRT

I think The Hobbit and especially STID were probably the tipping points for a lot of people.

I personally still like him a lot as an actor, but I'm not entirely convinced he's right for the part.

Oh yeah! STID. I saw that but forgot.

Yeah, casting him as Khan was the tipping point for me.

I guess I am just not bothered by an actor showing up in 1-2 movies a year.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-24 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been a while, and I never saw STID, but I'm pretty sure the issue with that one was less "OMG, Cumberpatch is in too many things!" and more "OMG, did they seriously cast a white English guy as an Indian dude for name recognition points?"

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
To be totally fair here though, Ricardo Montalban is also extremely not Indian. And it honestly would have been so much worse if they'd had an Indian man portraying a terrorist in today's political climate.

The better solution would have been to write their own story in the first place and not make a terrible version of one of the most affectionately remembered TOS movies. But that ship has sailed.

I never got the over saturation thing either. The only thing I can figure is that with the chunk of fandom so obsessed with him it just burned people out.

He really isn't in that many things, like he doesn't even begin to touch on the number of movies Samuel L Jackson is in a year.

SLJ is in everything. And I am not a huge fan of his shtick so it makes me a bit sad. :(

Tumblr might have something to do with it, because people compklain about stuff showing up on their dash even when they try to block it.

I'm not on tumblr, rarely consume entertainment news that's about actors and not movies or tv, and rarely consume media because of genre or franchise rather than whether I want to watch this particular thing. Even the Kardashians aren't oversaturated for me because I find them so easy to ignore on a daily basis that when the odd mainstream news story gets through to me, it might have been the first time I even thought about them in months.

I block Sherlock on Tumblr and I really hardly see him mentioned tbh. It means I still enjoy him a lot. (Sherlock remains not my thing though.)

The oversaturation thing for me was not so much that he was in everything, but that the fandom exploded over everything and I had him pretty much constantly on my dash. And I didn't like him in Sherlock and hated that they cast him as Kahn, so that made it even worse. I don't care for him, but I could have lived with it/him if I just didn't see him everywhere. I really don't want to see him in anything ever again.

I've taken a break from Tumblr, but I still haven't recovered from Cumberbatch fatigue.

Right now I have no desire to see him in anything else, ever again.

I got so badly burnt out on him via Tumblr that I got Tumblr Savior in part to remove his face from my dash. (Back when I still got a lot of SuperWhoLock stuff on my dash. Current browser doesn't have him blacklisted at all, which I was surprised to find.)
