I think if someone takes the time to put out a nice comment, with specific bits maybe copy/pasted and or some general thoughts on the plot/characterization, that kind of thing, the author really should say something back. I know i've had some very fun conversations in comments with readers, and i've really enjoyed the back and forth.

A couple of lines of 'it was awesome and i loved it!' should get a thank you, at the least.

I know some authors don't ever reply at all, which i think is stupid and kind of rude.

(Insert blah blah about 'but i'm just saying thank you ten times!!') So what? I've said a variation on that theme a ton of times. There's nothing wrong with common courtesy.

Oh, and, of course, this is my opinion, etc., etc., etc..

Ew no. If your going to thank everyone for their support just do it in the authors notes. Don't artificially inflate your comment count.

WTF kind of notion is that? I say 'thank you' to everyone. I said 'thank you' to ever comment on LJ and I do it at AO3. I don't give a damn about comment count and, if the author has replied to every comment (which is obvious if you look) all you have to do is halve the comment count number in your head, if that's some big-ass *deal*.

Good grief.

I agree with this. It's not about inflating a comment count, it's about being courteous. If someone has taken the time to leave a review I'm, at the very least, going to thank them.

I'll do whatever the fuck I want.

You sound really smart and polite. Not.

Just don't assume more comments=good fic. Simple.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ew, no. Don't cram more unnecessary author's notes onto your fic. I want to read a great story I can get immersed in, not a great story with random spam thrown in at every chapter break.
