There's definitely fewer Instinct gyms where I am, too. I'm Mystic, and it's pretty much a Mystic vs Valor contest to keep gyms. But I don't feel bad at all taking the yellow gyms. It's only a game, I want the coins, and gyms swap teams like every ten minutes, and with a full team of six (or maybe a friend to help you battle) gyms are not hard to take over. And besides getting the daily coins, doesn't affect the game at all. It's all for fun.

There are fewer Instinct gyms than Mystic or Valor because we have much, much fewer members. You're right, most gyms change color a lot anyway, and up until quite recently, I would have totally agreed that it barely affects gameplay.

However, I recently talked to a friend who is team Mystic. He gets off work late at night, and instead of taking public transport home, this summer, he mostly took the scenic route. He told me that he never battles or trains at gyms because he thinks the constant tapping at the screen is silly. So he only puts his pokémon into open slots. Sometimes three - sometimes a dozen in a single night!

I have to admit that I am a bit jealous because the only way I can get into a gym and reap coins is when I battle my way into a gym. Which means that I get one coin per day (because I get kicked out of the gyms quite quickly, all by my lonesome).

Meanwhile, this friend has over two thousand coins to spare, his bag holds about a thousand items, he incubates all his eggs right away because he can buy as many incubators as he wants, he puts lure modules on pokéstops whenever he wants, etc.
