Novels printed on paper generally have indented text at the start of a paragraph. If you're publishing fic online and you can't have indents, the you do line-skips instead. (This is actually how we format reports at work, even though we could do indents if we wanted and the reports often have to be submitted in hard copy.) You need to format for the medium, whether that's paper, an ebook, or a website.

Exactly. I've never read a novel that is a 'wall of text'. How weird.

Also, the width if the screen you're reading on - in terms of the number of characters that fit across it - might be much bigger than that if a book page, so breaking things up more is helpful for reading comprehension since you're less likely to jump to the wrone line when going back to start the next line.
