Mara wasn't my absolute favorite EU character (though she was in my top 5) but Luke/Mara was not only my favorite Star Wars ship but possibly my favorite fictional ship ever to exist. So I can fully empathize with you on this one. I'm having a hard time reconciling my wish for Rey to be Luke's kid with my JUSTNO feelings about him having a kid with anyone but Mara tbh.

Maybe Rey is Luke and Mara's daughter in this continuity? Or have the powers that be definitively said that there is no carryover from other continuities, that everything in this new version is new? If Rey IS Luke's daughter, I'm presuming the mother is dead either way.

They haven't said anything about Luke's potential past or present love interests in the new movies. But I'm pretty sure they wouldn't bring Mara in, in large part because her backstory and her relationship with Luke are very well fleshed out and detailed and they'd rather invent a new character they could make up out of whole cloth rather than trying to fit Mara's story into the new continuity.
