I was never very interested in Jon in the first 2.5 books-- remember that he is FOURTEEN at the start of the series! But I put up with him, it was okay. It's Dany chapters I always wanted to skip. But when book!Jon becomes Lord Commander, somehow he rocketed up my Interesting POV Rankings. It gets all political, and Jon's struggling with all the unpopular choices he has to make, where he can afford to compromise, when to show mercy (a major theme), and how to deal with everything. His decision with the baby swap is pretty fucking cold.
