You should always assume that 50% of comments are the author replying to everyone, because that's what polite, enthusiastic authors do. Just do the math in your head and figure that unique commenters are half the number.

I'm not going to stop thanking my readers, or getting into conversations about the fic in the comment section, just to please random people who might be judging by numbers. That's really stupid.
