Suicide is almost always within the top 10 causes of death in the US each year, at a much higher rate than homicide. 42,773 people in the US died from suicide in 2014 (cite), at rates of 21.1 per 100,000 for men and 6.0 per 100,000 for women (cite). [In comparison, "only" 14,249 people died from homicide in the same year (cite).]

Much worse, Greenland has, by some reckonings, the highest suicide rate in the world -- the average rate for the years 1985-2012 was 83.3 per 100,000, "more than twice the rate of the second placed country" (wikipedia citation, which I would verify if my laptop battery wasn't at 6%).

You never hear this publicized.

Of course not.

You wouldn't want the potentially suicidal to know it's a popular way to end it all, would you?

Pretty sure that if those gender percentages were switched, people would talk about this a lot more. Just look at the attention breast cancer reserach gets and the attention prostate cancer gets.
(It's terrible either way, but I definitely think that this is a factor.)
