Are there legit, tangible reasons to be excited for this after Cary Fukunaga dropped out of directing? Can someone enlighten me? Is it demonstrably going to be an improvement on the previous adaptation?

It's not like Fukunaga is the only good director in the world, though. Andrés Muschietti is now directing it, and he's the guy who co-wrote and directed Mama.

Yeah, not excited about that bit, sorry. Part of the issue is the reasons Fukunaga was pushed out; it seems like they want to emphasize it as a generic horror movie when Cary was pushing for more the thematic drama thriller.
