I guess if someone's scared of getting flamed. But I refuse to warn for slash, or femmeslash, or whatever. I always list the pairing, and if someone reads the pairing, realizes it's two men/women, and reads the entire fic anyway and then gets upset, that's their problem.

Well, yeah. I guess I just think it's silly to get upset seeing slash and femmeslash as a warning when, like... so many other things go under that label. Sex, fluff, psycho characters, etc. etc. Doesn't mean anything is BAD about them, it just means 'Hey, these things are present, don't read it if this stuff bothers you'. Ya know?

Warning for fluff is pretty silly too IMO. I guess it depends on what fandoms you're in. The ones I've been in, you only warn for things that are potentially upsetting or triggering. I think one of the few things I've ever had to warn for is infidelity (and actually, come to think of it, I put that under "notes," not a "warning" label). So to see same-sex pairings put on the same levels as those things is offensive.

But why is it so offensive? The purpose of a warning label is to portray a message to a general population. Putting it as a warning is just to cover all the bases, just in case. Because you never know when that asshat will find you and rat on you for not putting it in the warning. It isn't saying there's anything wrong with same sex pairings.

[identity profile] likespring.livejournal.com 2008-04-04 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Because in those cases, same-sex pairings are being equated with triggering things like rape, BDSM, violence, infidelity, etc. In a scenario where people warn for fluff and het and other trivial things, it wouldn't be offensive. But in fandoms/cases where they don't, and they only warn for majorly upsetting things? How is it not offensive that same-sex pairings are put on the same level?

Once again. Warning label = things people might find offensive, NOT things that are evil/wrong/bad. Perhaps you're in the wrong fandoms, because I see warnings for a multitude of things.

[identity profile] likespring.livejournal.com 2008-04-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I already stated it depends on the fandom, I believe.

Clearly.
