Almost got my friends to watch Shonen Maid. Seems like I dodged a bullet.

How does the stealth make it any creepier than if it was in your face? I'm not sure I understand. Is it a thing where, like, if it was blatant it'd at least be honest about it, and instead it becomes a stealth grooming thing or something?

My thoughts exactly.

I was super squicked by Kuroshitsuji for the blatantly intentional shota fanservice. Some of the jokes were so obvious that there was really no other way to interpret them, they were that in your face. At least if it's subtle, you can try to pretend it was never intended to be there.

Yeah. I mean, I can maybe sorta understand (if it's labeled shotacon, I know that it is NOT FOR ME, if it's subtle, then I just watch and feel uncomfortable, not realizing what I'm getting into) but I don't actually know anything about this anime otherwise, so have no idea.

I read, like, the one sentence description of this on... some website, hell if I know, and was just so completely put off, instantly and overwhelmingly. Man has to take in his nephew who has no where else to go! Man makes nephew dress and work as a maid! Man has apparently never read any of the fairy tales that suggest what a terrible idea this is! Ew, ew, ew. Nope.

To be fair it's the kid the one who decides to work as a maid. He didn't want to be a charity case so the uncle agreed to let the kid clean the house and cook in exchange for a place to stay.

Wait, that's what it's about? I thought it was your standard BL forced-servitude plot with an incest angle.

I'm with you, OP, it's somehow really creepy that they don't take it that far. O.o

Is the manga really that different from the anime? I thought the anime actually dodged a bullet and was much less fetishistic than expected, though there were still a few kinda off-color jokes early on. Sure, if you're really into that sort of thing you're probably gonna look harder, but the anime seemed surprisingly pleasant to me. Of course, I'm positive the creator is very much aware of what kind of doujinshi there is, so.
