I'm the anon above who said that she has been called names but would prefer that over being beaten up. As others said, it is because there is less immediate danger to me from the words. I cannot die by someone calling me the n-word. I can die if someone smashes my head into the ground. I'm not saying calling names is a good thing. But it is inherently less violent just by the nature of the two things. Saying words are violence trivializes physical violence to me. If someone is going to take 15 minutes extra to seat me, I wouldn't like it, but I would vastly prefer it to a broken nose, as just one example.
